We want children to feel comfortable and confident when they come to therapy. Many kids are sensitive to adult conversations, and hearing worries about their speech or language can shape how they see themselves. To avoid this, we separate the parent discussion from the child’s play‑based session.
By keeping the grown‑up chat and the child’s appointment apart, you can talk openly about your concerns while your child enjoys a positive, engaging session focused on getting to know them. This helps us understand their needs clearly while protecting their confidence and keeping their first experience with us relaxed and child‑centred.
While this booking secures your selected appointment, it does not automatically guarantee the same therapist, day, or time for ongoing sessions. Ongoing therapy sessions may not be immediately available, and some families may wait a few weeks for a regular ongoing therapy time.
We recommend chatting with our team on the day, or calling us, so we can help find the best ongoing therapy option to suit your availability.
We first discuss your concerns and history via Zoom/Phone with the parent only for 40 minutes and then see your child face to face for 50 minutes in our clinic on another day.
This is ideal for families who wish to discuss their concerns and challenges without their child present, devoting the entire second session to assessing their child in clinic.
For straightforward concerns or single issues, e.g., (only one speech sound error) we commence with a 50-minute face-to-face with your child and we follow this up with a 40-minute Zoom or Phone call with the parent to explain results and plan therapy.
At our discretion, we could use that second appointment to create a report for you, or to commence therapy.
