Frequently Asked Questions

What is paediatric Speech Pathology?

Paediatric Speech Pathology is a specialised service that supports children with difficulties in speech, language, communication, reading, spelling, stuttering,  feeding, and swallowing. A paediatric Speech Pathologist assesses and treats children from birth to adolescence.

When should I see a Speech Pathologist for my child?

You should consider seeing a Speech Pathologist if your child is late to talk, hard to understand, struggling with listening, following instructions, stuttering, or having trouble with feeding, reading, or spelling.

What age can my child start Speech Therapy?

Children can start Speech Therapy as early as a few months old and even from birth if there are feeding concerns or diagnosed hearing challenges. Our speech Pathologists also support toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children up to 14 years old.

How do I know if my child has a speech or language delay?

Signs of a delay include not using words by 12 months, difficulty following directions, limited vocabulary for age, unclear speech, or not engaging in back-and-forth conversations. An assessment by a Speech Pathologist can provide clarity.

Is a referral needed to see a Speech Pathologist?

No referral is needed. Parents and caregivers can contact us directly to book an assessment or therapy session.

What happens during a speech therapy session?

Speech therapy sessions are play-based and tailored to your child’s goals. They may include fun activities that improve speech sounds, language skills, listening, social communication, or feeding strategies.

Can you help with reading, spelling, or literacy issues?

Yes. Paediatric Speech Pathologists can support children with reading and spelling difficulties by building phonological awareness, vocabulary, and understanding of language structures.

Do you offer mobile Speech Pathology services at homes, schools, or kindys?

Yes. We provide mobile Speech Pathology visits to homes, childcare centres, kindergartens, and schools for your convenience, including areas like Ashgrove and Ipswich.

How can I book an appointment with a paediatric Speech Pathologist?

You can contact us directly by phone, email, or through our website to book an appointment. We offer flexible times, including weekend sessions, and have immediate availability.
